No More Registry Hassles
National News: Citizens no longer need to visit sub-registrar offices multiple times. The Punjab government has introduced a new digital property registration process to reduce delays, middlemen interference, and physical visits. The e-registry system was officially launched under the leadership of SDM Gagandeep Singh and Naib Tehsildar Hirdaipal Singh. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision for transparent, corruption-free land deals has taken a digital leap. Officials confirmed that nine types of registry processes are now digitized. People will no longer rely on middlemen or agents for updates. All registry information will now be available on citizens' mobile phones. The aim is speed, simplicity, and transparency.
Naib Tehsildar informed that citizens can now register their properties at any sub-registrar office, regardless of locality. Additionally, senior citizens or working professionals can call service assistants to their homes for documentation. This feature is expected to benefit rural residents significantly. Property buyers and sellers won’t have to take time off work or travel long distances. The process promises ease and accessibility for all. It also reduces long queues and bureaucratic delays.
Under the new system, citizens will receive real-time updates about approvals, fee payments, and appointment timings directly on WhatsApp. The digital setup ensures step-by-step alerts that guide users through the registry process. No one will remain in the dark regarding documentation status. This real-time tracking empowers users to manage appointments more effectively. It also builds accountability in the registration process. Government expects this to improve citizen trust.
Citizens can now upload and verify documents online, book slots, and even draft their own sale deeds. This shift removes the need for private agents and eliminates hefty agent fees. Government-trained assistants will help generate sale deeds at home if required. This ensures both affordability and official oversight. The Do-It-Yourself model reduces exploitation in rural and semi-urban regions. Legal accuracy is maintained under government supervision.
The e-registry system includes a secure payment gateway for stamp duty and registration charges. Citizens no longer need to carry cash or visit banks for demand drafts. Online payments are faster, safer, and trackable. This move is aligned with India’s broader digital economy push. Officials say this step will curb corruption and eliminate under-the-table transactions. The transition is seen as a major relief for property buyers.
If any official demands a bribe or delays the process, citizens can lodge instant complaints via a WhatsApp link. The portal provides follow-up tracking to ensure action is taken. This system acts as a check on local-level corruption. Whistleblowers are protected and empowered with transparency tools. The government plans to link this to public grievance redressal platforms. It’s a significant shift in power from middlemen to citizens.
